Eating well on the road has always been a struggle.
Beer, Cheetos, Steely Dan; I'm all for everything and anything in moderation. It's hard to find or cook decent fresh food on the road, especially in the winter. When you're in the middle of nowhere, it makes it even more difficult. I try to keep some fresh fruits, or veggies in the cooler whenever I find a fruitstand on the side of the road.. It's easy to say fuck it, hit up a McDonalds and come home weeks later with road gut and an extra 20 lbs hangin on.
I want to give a shout out to Robert is Here just outside of the Everglades National Park in Florida. Make sure to grab some amazing produce here before heading in, if you visit. Places like this are an incredible resource. The avocado and mango in the pics above are from Roberts. Good god, that was like gold compared to any dehydrated shit I ate for the previous week.
I'm not giving up on shitty pizza, PBR or sunflower seeds. But I need to remind myself that the reason for these road trips are not just for my mental and creative health.
